This is the original painting, the only one there is. On the real sheet, the fine white speckles sit right in the paint, and you can see how the colors bled into each other.
Pale cream and gold koi drift down through a deep navy and teal pond. Soft orange glows along their backs, and one near the top carries a patch of rusty red. All around them, tiny white specks spread across the dark water like a sky full of stars, with a warm golden glow rising in one corner. The longer you look, the more fish seem to appear.
Out here in the Hill Country, the night sky still fills up with stars, and I think that's where this one came from.
