About Sonja
I've Always Been an Artist
Hi, I'm Sonja Nagy. I'm 52, and I've been making art for as long as I can remember. Somewhere along the way I let other people's doubts convince me to put it on the back burner. These days I'm giving that time back to myself, because I simply love making art.
Learning to See
For the past six years I focused on observing and photographing the world around me: the wildlife, sunsets, rivers, and small-town corners of the Texas Hill Country. Photography taught me to slow down and really look at light, color, and the little moments most people walk right past. You'll find many of those photographs here as prints.
Back to the Brush
Now I'm bringing everything I learned with the camera back to painting in watercolor, oil, and acrylic. Some pieces are simple studies, like the koi or the clouds I've been working on in oil. Others are surreal, where I combine images from my own work into what my mind has been trying to tell me. My newest piece, Rebirth, is about refusing to shrink myself ever again.
Why I Create
I make art because it's how I process the world and how I find joy in it. Every piece here comes from something I saw, felt, or needed to say. I live and paint in Wimberley, Texas, and the Hill Country shows up in almost everything I make. Thank you for spending a little time with my work. It means more than you know.
