This is the original painting, and it is the only one. What you see in the photos is the real sheet, with every wash and edge just as it dried.
Five or six koi glide through deep cobalt blue, seen from above. Their pale, ghostly bodies and nearly clear white fins frame warm red-orange centers, so each fish seems to glow from the inside. Between them, patches of shimmering gold and bright yellow scatter across the water, with a few flashes of red, like leaves or sunlight drifting on the surface. The deeper the blue gets, the brighter the fish seem.
Some days I just want the deepest blue I can mix, and this painting came out of one of those days. I still get lost in it.
