Two koi swim side by side along the right edge of this painting: one white with bold crimson patches, the other a warm golden orange just beneath it. They feel like old friends to me, easy in each other's company.
I left most of the page open, with soft vertical washes of teal, blue and ochre that drip down like reflections on the water. At 52, I've learned to leave a little room to breathe, in paintings and in life.
