This is the original oil painting on stretched canvas, the only one there is. In person you can see the thick, sweeping strokes in the sky and the fine lines in every wing feather.
A ruby-throated hummingbird hovers with its wings lifted high, reaching its long, thin bill toward a cluster of yellow trumpet flowers. Its throat glows ruby red, its back shimmers in gold and green, and its tiny feet are tucked up underneath. The flowers climb the left side on curling green stems, and the background sweeps across in soft white and pale blue.
Hummingbirds never hold still for long, so I loved catching this one just before that first sip.
